About project

Schedule: Fall 2023 – ongoing

Client: Village of Key Biscayne

Type: Public Communications Services for the Resilient Infrastructure and Adaptation Program

Project Challenge

The Resilient Infrastructure and Adaptation Program, also known as Elevating Our Island Paradise, is the Village of Key Biscayne’s vision for preserving the community’s quality of life from environmental changes. The resilience program consists of a series of immediate-relief and long-term projects that will help mitigate flooding, underground utilities, and protect shorelines. This program takes proactive steps to address the island’s vulnerabilities and reduce risks to the community.

Several projects have already been completed as part of the resilience program, including the Immediate Flood Control and Mitigation Projects, the Beach Renourishment Project and the Vulnerability Assessment. The Village is also coordinating with the US Army Corps of Engineers to protect the beach and bay side shorelines.

Our Approach

We have worked closely with the Village of Key Biscayne’s leaders and staff to develop and implement a communications strategy that focuses on consistency and efficacy. Through this strategy, we are creating awareness in the community of the program, shifting stakeholder attitude, and encouraging resident engagement.

HML participates in weekly sync meetings with the project team, regular communications meetings with the Village Manager and communications staff, and coordinates with the program manager and engineer of record on the Zone 1 Integrated Infrastructure Project. Working closely with team members ensures that the implementation of our communications strategy was seamless and in lock step with the Village’s goals.

In addition to meeting with staff, we participate in community events and project workshops. We also engage with residents online, producing graphics and videos to post on the Village’s social media accounts, expanding the resilience section of the website and sending out regular electronic newsletters to stakeholders and industry experts.
